Travel Tips | Blogmas day 14

Hey everyone!

After this post I’ll be caught up on blogmas yay!

Since the reason I got behind in blogmas was due to travel, I figured writing a travel tips post was only fitting 🙂

Here goes nothing, my tips for the next time you’re travelling:

Pack light

This first one is partially because of checked baggage costs; they’re horrendously expensive! So cut down on what you’re bringing and then have room to buy more while you’re there too. We all know it’s going to happen so why make it worse for yourself?

Extra contingency

Everyone plans on some sort of contingency but most people don’t plan on enough. You never know what’s going to happen when you’re travelling and it is ALWAYS better to have slightly more than you plan on for “just in case. Trust me, when you’re in a pickle you’ll be thanking me.

Do the research

This one is super obvious… right? But some folks don’t do enough research. Don’t just look at reviews on big name travel websites, look for bloggers who are posting from the site! They’re going to be so honest in what they’re seeing and doing so it’s the perfect why to start making your decisions about your trip.

Take risks

This might be the most important one. Now this doesn’t mean you should get in cars with randoms or give all your money to a voodoo man. I just think that whenever you go somewhere new, you should try something new! Go for a hot hair balloon ride? Maybe some skinny dipping? Get out of your comfort zone because it’s now or never – you’re in this crazy cool place for a limited time so get out there and do something you never thought you could!

Talk to people

Even if you’re not travelling alone it’s so much fun to meet new people! This goes hand in hand with getting out of your comfort zone. Find some new people to chat about your new experiences with, it makes everything a lot more fun I promise

Check in back home

Even though you’re off on with your cool new friends and your crazy new experiences you need to make sure you check in with the people back home. They’re going to worry about you, plus they’re going to want to hear about everything that you’re up to!

Journal

It’s so much fun in the moment so don’t you want to remember it later on? I always like to write a little blurb about the day right before I go to bed. That way it’s not taking a huge chunk out of my day and I still remember everything that went on! I love reading back on my travel journals and remembering all of the great experiences I had 🙂

If you have any travel tips I’d love to hear about them!

Daiya Mac and Cheese Review| Blogmas day 13

Hey everyone!

Before I get into the mac and cheese I just wanted to give you guys a little update:

I GOT MY CAMERA (and an iPhone 5c which I used to take those pictues 🙂 )

It’s definitely been an amazing pre-Christmas for me guys!

Anyways, that’s not what I’m going for today, or erm for yesterday haha.

I made Daiya’s Mac and Cheese for dinner tonight and I thought it would be cool to review it for you guys! I’m allergic to dairy and have a whole bunch of other dietary restrictions (I might do a post about that later, I don’t know yet). So because of all this I went vegan! I’ll definitely go over that in a separate post don’t worry).

I should also preface this by telling you guys that I’m GARBAGE at cooking so like here goes nothing!

img_0402

Okay so boiling the water went swimmingly (ha… water… swimmingly).

img_0404

The real test is going to be what happens after the water boils. The packaging of the mac and cheese was fantastic in terms of ease: just a clear plastic bag with the noodles and a packet with the sauce.

Putting the noodles in and waiting for them to cook also went better than expected. The water didn’t even boil over!

img_0405

A word of caution: there is a LOT of sauce in that packet. It also looks kinda nasty at this point but I kept trooping.

After everything was stirred in, it looked AMAZING

img_0406

Kraft Dinner or Daiya?! Based on looks I’m blown away how good it looked.

So taste wise it’s very, very good. No, it doesn’t taste exactly like Kraft Dinner, but when you can’t eat dairy it’s a really good substitute.

My one and only wish is that they wouldn’t keep the noodles in the clear plastic, it’s a total waste. Other than that, I’m 100% going to repurchase this because it’s easy to make and tastes great!

Storytime: my Travel Disasters | Blogmas day 12

Hey everyone!

OKAY SO I’M VERY LATE ON TODAY’S BLOGMAS. But let me tell you why…

I woke up yesterday morning in Halifax to SNOW. We had only had dustings of snow that never lasted more than a couple hours, so to wake up to everything I could see being covered in snow was definitely a shock!

So then I check on my flight and two other flights from Halifax to Toronto have been CANCELLED. Obviously I go straight into panic mode… I’m so ready for Christmas break to start I need to get home on this flight.

My friends (they’re absolutely amazing) walk with me to the shuttle station, even though it’s blizzarding out! Crazy right? I literally have the most amazing friends around. Anyways, I wait at the station and they tell us that the bus is going to be delayed for an hour. Great. But I go to check my flight status and it’s also delayed!! Thank gosh for that.

But wait…

The shuttle gets cancelled next.

WHAT DO I DO NOW?!

  1. Freak out on the phone with my mum
  2. Look up whether the city buses are running
  3. Run outside and catch the first bus that comes

Yes, that’s right, in the dark I got on the first bus that showed up and was like “hey is this going to get me in this direction?” “yes? okay thanks”.

After two more buses in the dark, and now pouring rain, I made it to the airport in time to check in!!

I cannot believe all of that actually happened.. I’m still in shock and my body is definitely still aching from lugging two large duffel bags and a backpack all over Halifax. But I did it and I’m so over the moon proud of myself eeee!!

Anyways, I’m so sorry it took me this long to get this out but it’s been busy

My Travel Dreams| Blogmas Day 10

Hey everyone!

My friend and I were talking about life plans last night; where we want to be, what we want to do, you know? So I started thinking about what exactly it is that I want to do later on in life… kind of a big topic.

After a lot of thought (and very little sleep) I realized that a really big part of what I want to do with my life is travel! I don’t care where I go or what I’m doing, I just want to see the world.

I’ve been pretty lucky in my life in terms of travel. I made a little map of all the countries that I’ve been to 🙂

Untitled design (2).png

  • The Netherlands
  • Canada
  • US
  • United Kindom
  • Greece
  • St. Thomas
  • British Virgin Islands
  • Puerto Rico
  • Bahamas
  • Austria

10/196

I think 10 countries in 18 years isn’t too bad, but I can’t wait until I get to some more! Now I know I’ve already been to the U.K. but over Christmas I’m going to visit my family in London and I am so so so excited! 🙂

Travelling means… well the world to me. I love discovering new places, new people, and new traditions. I feel like a new person every time I get back from somewhere new and I want to keep rediscovering myself. I know that sometime during university I want to spend a summer backpacking through Europe – I think that would help get some of the travel bug in me satisfied (for awhile at least).

If you guys have any suggestions of where I should go and what I should see let me know!

Christmas Traditions | Blogmas Day 8

Hey everyone!

For my Blogmas post today I wanted to tell you guys about a Christmas tradition that I’ve loved for as long as I can remember. It’s  actually a Christmas Eve tradition!

Ravioli for dinner and opening one present.

This used to be my favourite part of Christmas. It was incredibly quirky and a night when my mother and were truly happy. It was always incredible, always perfect.

I think everyone needs those perfect Christmas traditions, something that they can rely on, and cherish every year when the holidays roll around.

Do any of you have quirky holiday traditions?

Get to know me! | Blogmas Day 5

Hey everyone!

I hope your Mondays weren’t too manic!  It’s late again so I think for this post I’m going to tell you eight things about myself. I want to get to know you guys, so I’ll start off by telling you a little bit more about me 🙂

  1. I’m a first year uni student in Nova Scotia, Canada. I’m taking business and so far I’m absolutely in love with it. I’ve never felt as invested and interested in my studies as I do right now.
  2. I was born in The Netherlands, but I’m not Dutch (bet you didn’t see that one coming did you?). My parents were both there on work visas so I, unfortunately, wasn’t able to get my Dutch citizenship.
  3. I love to travel. Like seriously, I have a severe case of the travel bug. I’ve been moving ever since I was born and I moved again to go to university. (P.S I can’t wait to blog when I get to London, England over the Christmas break!!).
  4. Music means a lot to me. I love to listen to music and play it! I have a confession though: I’m garbage at guitar. Give me a flute, piano, banjo, ukulele, or harmonica and I’m your girl but the second a guitar is in my hands it sounds like people are dying a very painful death.
  5. I apply makeup when I’m stressed; weird right? I don’t wear that much makeup out on a daily basis, yet somehow whenever I’m stressed I end up with a full face of makeup, winged eyeliner and all!
  6. Okay this one might seem kind of lame, but here we go: I’m a member of Girl Guides (wait… what?! Isn’t that only for 10 year olds??). This is actually my 13th year and I love it. I’m helping out in a Guide unit close to my university and I couldn’t be happier with it.
  7. Camping is my jam! There is no place I’d rather be than in the woods, roasting veggie dogs over the fire (except when my allergies act up ugh)
  8. I’m all about body modifications! Yay tattoos and piercings!! I have a septum piercing and I’m so in love with it. I also can’t wait to get tattoos later on in life!

So there you have it, eight things you didn’t know about me! Feel free to talk to me anytime, I’d love to get to know you guys better 🙂

Dealing with Exam Stress | Blogmas day 4

Hey everyone!

Since I’m in the middle of my first set of university exams I thought I’d share with you some of the ways that I’ve come up with to help me tackle them.

Keep your room tidy

This definitely doesn’t seem like something super important, but it doesn’t matter if you’re trying to study or get ready before an exam, having a messy room is bound to stress you out. Taking 20 minutes out of your studying (or procrastinating – no judgement 🙂 ) isn’t going to kill you, and it’s going to help you out in the long run.

Have a calendar

Make sure you have a calendar with all of your exams and their times on it! Missing an exam would be the worst thing so make sure you check the times and room numbers twice, maybe even three times.

Sleep

This is a super obvious one but make sure you’re getting enough sleep. A really important thing to remember is that getting a consistent amount of sleep is going to ensure that you don’t feel exhausted when you wake up.

Take breaks

Okay, it’s so important to take breaks from studying. Take a break, get a get some food, breathe a little bit, and get ready to get back into the studying zone (just make sure it’s a break, not a full day).

My Day + Free Makeup | Blogmas Day 3

Hey everyone!

Welcome to Blogmas day 3! Today it’s late so I’m just going to give you guys a quick update on what went on today.

I had my quantitative methods (aka math) exam this morning at 9am. Yeah I know, it’s terrible, who has an exam at 9am?! I was honestly so stressed for this exam but it wasn’t that bad, I had an answer for every single question which is really really good. It was a three hour exam and I was finished after 2 hours and 20 minutes, which I’m super proud about. I tend to zone out a lot during exams but I made sure I was concentrating but also taking breaks when I need them 🙂

Then I fell asleep for 7 hours. I think I’m getting a cold, so I guess I needed the sleep.

To top that very exciting (NOT) day off I got some free makeup!! My friend’s cousin works at Shoppers Drug and gets a ton of free samples and gives whatever she doesn’t want to my friend – then my friend gives what she doesn’t want to us!!

PĂĽr Cosmetics: Day Look Eye Shadow Palette

Obviously, this is a semi used palette so I don’t have the colour hope but that’s totally okay! I love all of the colours that I have in this and I’m super excited to try using them out. All of pĂĽr cosmetics items are cruelty-free and this palette is also vegan! Yay!

Covergirl: Simply Ageless 3-1 Liquid Foundation

This foundation is going to be a little bit dark on my skin but I also mix my foundations because I haven’t been able to find one that fits my skin tone exactly. Unfortunately Covergirl is NOT cruelty free – however, since I did not purchase this product, I’d rather it be used than have it be more waste.

Photo on 2016-12-03 at 11.07 PM #2.jpg

Also, I’m so sorry for the garbage quality of these pictures – I’ll have my camera so soon (check out my countdown widget hehe) and I’ll be able to upload super quality pictures with my content!

I’ll give you guys an update when I start using these products (I also might be going to Shoppers for some makeup tomorrow because I have a gift card so it might be a haul post ahh)

Anyways, Happy Blogmas babes!
